Verbier Festival Philanthropy Forum: the recording of the Forum is available on our Youtube channel
Swiss Philanthropy Foundation and the Verbier Festival Foundation joined forces to organise the fourth edition of the Verbier Festival Philanthropy Forum, whose theme was „How can philanthropy be more impactful in an Age of Disruption? The event took place on Saturday 23 July 2022 at the Verbier Cinema and was streamed live for the first time. If you were not able to attend this event, we offer you the possibility to watch the recording on our Youtube channel.
What is the role of philanthropy in a society where immense challenges – pandemic, climate change, war on Europe’s doorstep, to name but three – force us to question the foundations of our living together. Despite the collective awareness of the urgency to act, concrete actions and real changes in behaviour and regulations are struggling to be put in place, although remarkable initiatives have been taken here and there. This is despite the fact that the disruptive effects on the various ecosystems (nature, social, health, economy, etc.) will be inevitable and irreversible. The Philanthropy Forum discussions focused on this important issue and explored ways to strengthen the impact of philanthropy in our world in transition.
This year’s Forum featured four speakers whose unique backgrounds and commitment made for lively and engaging discussions: Maria Cattaui, Member of the Global Board of the Open Society Foundations; Yves Daccord, former Director of the ICRC and President of the Edgelands Institute; Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust; and Beatrice Fihn, Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). The conference was moderated by Etienne Eichenberger, President of Swiss Philanthropy Foundation.
