Swiss Philanthropy Foundation conducted last year a survey in collaboration with the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad and the gfs.bern institute, to better understand the generosity of Swiss Abroad. The focus was on individual values and the link with Switzerland, but also on giving behaviors and motivations.
The results of the survey showed that 74% of Swiss expatriates consider donations to organizations important. Additionally, 25% of respondents would like to support more organizations if the procedures were simplified. This is why it is essential to provide simple and effective solutions, as well as to communicate them clearly to ensure they are visible. Find here the press coverage of the survey.
The 100th Congress of the Swiss Abroad, held on 12 July 2024 in Luzern, was therefore essential for communicating existing philanthropic solutions to this community.
Swiss Philanthropy Foundation was present to discuss the solutions we host, particularly our role as the Swiss partner of the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) Network. This enables us to facilitate cross-border donations in a simple and effective manner, helping for example Swiss expatriates support organizations in Switzerland. In 2023, EUR 2.3 million were received by 58 Swiss-based organizations through this philanthropic solution and EUR 2.2 milion were donated in Europe by Swiss-based donors.
