Give blood? Know his blood type? As he accompanies a group of invited visitors to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum (ICRC) of which he is the director, Pascal Hufschmid reads aloud the title of a poster for the latest temporary exhibition: “Blood – the gift of life”. The poster, which includes red spots that had caught his attention, makes him aware that he himself has never been a donor and that he does not know his own blood type.
Since he works for a museum associated with the world’s largest humanitarian organization, he has reason to wonder why he has never donated blood.
With the necessary personal corrective measures in place, he and his team are thinking about how to mobilize others who, perhaps like him, have never donated blood. More than an exhibition space, a museum is a place to live! Why not organize a blood collection directly at the museum?
